It's almost Labor Day Weekend! Join us at the Sausalito Art Festival once again this year.
"More than 260 award-winning artists from around the country and 30,000 patrons flock to the waterfront village of Sausalito, California, on Labor Day weekend for the annual Sausalito Art Festival. One of the oldest, most prestigious and most anticipated open-air art events in the country—the Sausalito Art Festival has set the standard for quality, variety, innovation and scope of artistry for more than 60 years. " (-sausalitoartfestival.org)
This festival combines world-class art, gourmet food, wine and spirits, and live performances in big concert venues to transform the seaside community into one of the country's top events. The entire weekend is a blast, and there's so much to see, you won't know where to start.
We'll be in Booth 822, near the Harken Wine Experience. Patrick will be showing new pieces, including pieces from his film archives. Come on by, say hello, and check out some new artwork! We hope to see you there!

Some glimpses into the rest of the tour...
Join us April 13, from 4-7PM, at the reception for "In the Mind's Eye", a new exhibition at Topanga Canyon Gallery.
Featuring work by:
Patrick Ramsey (Photography)
Idelle Okman Tyzbir (Metalwork & Watercolor)
Carole Carpenter (Die on Silk)
How does the artist approach their work? Is the vision before they start fulfilled, or does the work itself stimulate the final piece? Do we see through their mind's eye, or only though our own lens? These are the questions asked by this exhibition, and the artist provide their own answers- which may not be yours.
Show runs April 3-28, 2019
Reception April 13, 4-7PM

]]>Patrick's booth was located next to the music stage, and while much of the weekend was accompanied by high-energy, country and rock bands, there was a slot during which a classical quartet played. One viewer said it provided a perfect backdrop to the new piece, "Solo", featuring a stand-up bass player in the Bethesda Fountain area of NYC's Central Park.
This year's festival had many young viewers, as well. It's always an honor to share Patrick's work with a youth audience, and hear their interpretations of his photography. Thanks to all who spent their holiday weekend at the festival!

42 artists will showcase their work in 17 home studios and work spaces among the oaks in beautiful Topanga Canyon. You are invited to get up close and personal, see behind the scenes, watch artist demos, and experience how and where the creativity flows. The Topanga Artists studio tour is a leisurely drive to a series of beautiful locations where art lovers can take their time, see a great variety of artwork, chat with the artists who create it, and share a nibble with friends, neighbors and the artists. Due to the studio locations, many at the artist’s homes, artists are able to show a large selection of their work, often several collections. Visitors can spend as long as they like looking at the work without crowds or distractions.

Patrick, the only male artist showing in Women at Work, exhibits a collection of images of women doing physical work to maintain their lives and families- a frequent topic for his photography, and debuting 2 new pieces. He illustrates his subjects as genuine and unadorned- real women.
Having Patrick's images, side by side with the work of Carole, Zoe, and Idelle, is intended to invite the visitor to see the soul of all these women through their work.

One of Patrick's new images showing at the Tour:
Visitors found the selection of images invited both introspection and discussion. Conversations about the meaning of particular images and how perceptions differed were going on all during the reception.
For those who couldn't attend, the show continues through March 19. Patrick will be in the gallery himself Saturday afternoon, March 11 and Sunday afternoon March 19.
The Gallery is at 120 N Topanga Canyon Blvd in Topanga CA; hours 11 - 6 Wednesday through Sunday.
Multi-media impressionist Rea Nagel and fine art photographer Patrick Ramsey are presenting "Contemplation: Art for Thought" at the Topanga Canyon Gallery March 1-19. The work is an invitation for reflection about vision, meaning and the world around us. Both artists have a long history of engagement in social and political movements which informs their perspective.

The story behind the photo:
"My young tour guide in the mountains of Northern Vietnam took me to her own village after a few days walking together. She introduced me to friends who dyed and wove the cloth from which the villagers’ clothes were made. This dyer did not cover her face from shyness, but because I asked her to let me take a picture of her hands. They carry with them the mark of her skill and contribution to her community. "

“What I’m trying to convey more than anything else is emotion. When you look at my image, I want you to feel some emotion stirred in you. If not what I felt, some emotion that connects you to humanity. It’s an opportunity to see the commonality in all of us.”
One of the images appearing in the article, "Splash", was also selected for the Eclectic Exhibit at the D'Art Center in Norfolk Va.
Summer in Chicago! Nobody could have enjoyed it more than these children playing in the Millennium Park fountain. It was exactly the same scene I experienced in my childhood, opening the neighborhood fire hydrant. Some things, happily, don’t ever change.
"Respite"
I’d spent days getting to know Barcelona, taking pictures. I took one afternoon off to spend in the Picasso Museum. Leaving the galleries I walked into one of the alleyways and saw this woman at peaceful rest. The lighting was perfect and I saw a work of art in the light, color, her pose and attitude.
On my second trip to Venice, Italy, 10 years after the first, I found the difference in the city striking. What had been a vital and multi-dimensional city was now divided into a “Disneyland “ for tourists and run down, or abandoned areas housing residents too poor to move to the mainland. Turning the corner on a small street I found this woman who symbolized the change I was seeing all around me.
This is a picture of a nice day. This was taken in Millennium Park in Chicago, in the middle of the city. This girl was as comfortable as a person could be; the other children playing in the fountain or the people bustling by on the streets around the park were a part of her environment and just fine with her.
Late at night in London I saw this scene as a perfect black and white image with it’s dark shadows and highlights. It is a pure visual experience.
